COPYRIGHT POLICY

Copyright & Image Usage Policy

Last updated: 20 October 2026

1. Copyright Ownership

Unless otherwise stated, the original wildlife photographs published on WildClicks (https://wildclicks.fi) are owned by or lawfully controlled by the photographer and rights holder identified by WildClicks.

WildClicks showcases original wildlife photography, photographic stories, blog posts, galleries, and fine-art prints.

Copyright and related rights may protect photographs, written content, and other original creative material published on this website under applicable law.

Copyright notice: © Welathantrige Ansala Nethmal Boteju / WildClicks. All rights reserved, except where permission is expressly granted or applicable law provides otherwise.

The absence of a copyright notice or watermark does not mean that an image is free to use.

2. Restrictions on Image Use

Viewing a photograph on WildClicks does not grant permission to reproduce, republish, distribute, sell, modify, or commercially exploit it.

Unless you have obtained permission, a licence, or another lawful basis for the use, you may not:

  • Download or copy photographs for republication.

  • Upload photographs to another website, blog, online gallery, or social media account.

  • Use photographs in advertising, marketing, promotional materials, or commercial websites.

  • Reproduce photographs in books, magazines, presentations, merchandise, or other publications.

  • Print photographs for resale or distribution.

  • Crop, edit, recolour, manipulate, or create derivative versions for publication or distribution.

  • Remove or alter watermarks, copyright notices, or identifying metadata.

  • Sell, sublicense, redistribute, or claim authorship of a photograph.

  • Upload photographs to stock-image platforms or offer them for licensing without the relevant rights.

  • Use photographs to train, fine-tune, evaluate, or populate datasets for AI systems, or to generate derivative content, except where expressly authorised or permitted by applicable law.

These restrictions apply to commercial and non-commercial use, subject to statutory exceptions and other rights under applicable law.

3. Sharing on Social Media

You may share a link to a WildClicks webpage using ordinary sharing features.

However, sharing a link is different from downloading and re-uploading the photograph itself.

Unless expressly authorised, you may not download a photograph and upload it as a separate image to Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, blogs, forums, or other platforms.

Tagging WildClicks, mentioning the photographer, or providing credit does not, by itself, grant permission to reproduce or republish an image.

If you wish to feature a photograph in a post, publication, or campaign, please request permission before using it.

4. Personal Viewing and Private Use

Visitors may view photographs on WildClicks for personal enjoyment.

Any copying or printing for private use remains subject to applicable copyright law and its exceptions. Private-use exceptions do not automatically permit public distribution, online publication, commercial exploitation, or other uses outside their scope.

Nothing in this policy is intended to restrict rights that cannot lawfully be restricted.

5. Purchasing a Physical Print

Purchasing a physical print gives the purchaser ownership of that particular physical item, subject to applicable law and the terms of sale.

Purchasing a print does not transfer copyright or automatically grant permission to reproduce the photograph.

Unless a separate written agreement expressly provides otherwise, purchasing a print does not grant permission to:

  • Scan or reproduce the photograph.

  • Manufacture copies or derivative products.

  • Reproduce the image in publications, advertisements, or merchandise.

  • Upload or distribute digital copies.

  • Sell reproductions or grant reproduction rights to others.

The purchaser may display the physical print for personal enjoyment, subject to applicable law and any specific terms agreed at purchase.

6. Photography Licensing

WildClicks may offer licences for selected photographs for editorial, commercial, advertising, publication, or other approved uses.

Licensing requests are assessed individually. Any licence must be expressly approved by the rights holder and documented in agreed terms.

A licence may specify:

  • The photograph or photographs covered.

  • The permitted purpose and type of use.

  • Approved media and publication channels.

  • Geographic territory.

  • Licence duration.

  • Whether the licence is exclusive or non-exclusive.

  • Permitted resolution, format, and image alterations.

  • Required copyright credit.

  • Licence fees and payment conditions.

  • Any additional restrictions or conditions.

Unless a written licence expressly states otherwise, all rights not specifically granted remain with the rights holder.

Permission for one use does not automatically permit other uses. For example, an editorial licence does not automatically authorise advertising, merchandise, or product packaging.

Submitting a licensing request does not itself grant permission to use a photograph.

To enquire about licensing, please use the Photo Licensing form on WildClicks or contact us through the website.

7. Custom Print Requests

Visitors may enquire about custom prints of selected photographs that are not currently included in the public print collection.

A custom print request concerns the availability, format, size, or production of a physical print. It does not grant copyright ownership or independent reproduction rights.

Any additional usage rights must be expressly agreed in writing.

8. Copyright Attribution

Where a licence requires attribution, the required credit wording and placement will be specified in the relevant agreement.

Unless otherwise agreed, a suitable credit may be:

“Photograph © [Welathantrige Ansala Nethmal Boteju / WildClicks — wildclicks.fi”

Providing attribution does not replace the need for permission where permission is required.

9. Unauthorised Use and Infringement

If a photograph is used without permission and no statutory exception or other lawful basis applies, the rights holder may seek appropriate remedies under applicable law.

Depending on the circumstances, this may include:

  • Requesting removal of the photograph.

  • Requesting that further reproduction or distribution cease.

  • Seeking appropriate compensation or a retrospective licence where legally justified.

  • Reporting the use to a website operator, hosting provider, social media platform, or other relevant service.

  • Pursuing legal remedies where appropriate.

WildClicks may document suspected infringement and take proportionate steps to protect its rights.

No fixed penalty or compensation amount is created by this policy. Any claim will depend on the facts, applicable law, and available evidence.

10. Reporting Suspected Copyright Infringement

If you discover a WildClicks photograph being used without apparent permission, please contact us with the following information where available:

  • The URL of the original photograph on WildClicks.

  • The URL of the suspected unauthorised use.

  • A description of the photograph and how it is being used.

  • The name of the website, business, or account involved, if known.

  • Screenshots or other relevant evidence, where lawfully obtained.

  • Your contact details.

We will review the information and determine what action, if any, is appropriate.

11. Requesting Permission

If you wish to use a photograph for editorial, educational, commercial, advertising, publication, or other purposes, please contact WildClicks before using it.

Please include:

  • The photograph or gallery link.

  • Your intended use.

  • The publication, platform, or project.

  • The expected audience.

  • The territory and duration of the proposed use.

  • Any relevant commercial or distribution details.

We will review the request and may grant permission, refuse it, or offer a licence subject to specific terms and fees.

No permission is granted unless it is expressly confirmed by the rights holder or an authorised representative.

12. Third-Party Content

Some website pages may include content owned by third parties or embedded from external platforms.

Such content remains subject to the rights of its respective owner. WildClicks does not claim ownership of third-party material that it does not own or lawfully control.

13. No Transfer of Intellectual Property Rights

Except where expressly agreed in writing, no copyright or other intellectual property right is transferred merely because a visitor accesses the website, views a photograph, submits a form, or purchases a physical print.

14. Applicable Law

This policy is intended to be interpreted consistently with applicable Finnish and European Union law, including relevant copyright legislation.

Nothing in this policy overrides mandatory legal rights, statutory exceptions, or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

If any provision is unenforceable in a particular circumstance, the remaining provisions will continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.

15. Changes to This Policy

WildClicks may update this policy to reflect changes in its services, licensing practices, or applicable law.

The latest revision date will be displayed at the beginning of this page.
